Safety first?

I have a remodeling project that I may lose, The project was to freshen up an existing finished basement. Painting, new molding, replace existing bar and some new floor coverings. The problems came when applying for a permit. Structurally and use wise we are not changing anything. However the home owner hired a electrician to install some new lights. So I thought best to get a building permit. In that process the inspector informed me that it will need a egress window. The new codes call for egress window when ever there is living space in a basement. I understand that. What I was told is that when a code official is apprised of living space in a existing basement it is mandatory to upgrade. This is a process that can reach $6,000.00 combine that to where we are required now to update to interlaced smoke detectors any time any work is performed another $500 to $1,000.00 a twenty thousand dollar project is now $27,000.00. Just think of how many people have living space in there basement without egress compliance. It's a great safety feature, but financially a hard pill to swallow.

Light & Dark

This morning I will be going to work at daybreak and coming home after dark. I have never liked the dark both way deal. Especially when there is ice & snow or bitter cold. Sunshine, I believe, has as great of value to psyche as does large bodies of water.

Ladies Man

While in Georgia I meet a couple of ladies. Both didn't say much but could stir a lot of conversation. The one was quite perky and I wanted to take here home but she was $200.00.
The other was quite thin. One good breeze ands she would fly away like a piece of cardboard.

I am all wired up now and in 30 days we will know how heartless I am. I can't image wearing this gizmo for 29 more days.

I don't blog on the weekends so I just want to say happy birthday to brother Dale. Tomorrow he will turn 45. There is eight years between Dale and I but I don,t mind being the younger brother. Oh ya, and the best looking.

That was a nice trip to fantasy land. I am back now.

Am or FM wired for sound

This morning I get wired up with and event recorder. Its like a portable ekg that hooks to a telephone line. When I have an event with my heart I guest I plug in and dial up. I was to have it put on just before our trip South but with no phone in Ga it seemed not to make sense. I have had 4 events since then counting the one I am having right now. I am hoping this event will continue till I arrive at the doctors office and they will get the info they need. The event can vary in severity & time. As short as a hour or 7 like this one. This one is a fairly mild event. My heart seems to beat normal for 6 to 8 beats then maybe miss 1 or 2 then 4 or 5 rapid beats. It makes me feel reel jittery and a bit tired. The rapid ones don't worry me it's missing the beats that make me worry I don't want to miss to many in a row.

Fred & Nell have been married 60 years today! Wow! I am speechless.

Lost in a digital world

I have spent a lot of time the last couple of days looking at photo's of our place in Ga. For that matter a lot of time in the past years. Not that it's the garden of Eden or anything but in my heart it's I think it's where I want to be. Working at the same job for over 31 years and having all the pain that comes with it, a change might be good. There are few people I know that have done the same thing for 31 years without some sort of change. Granted I go from different projects to projects but at the end of the year it's all the same. I don't mind working I know I have to be doing something. It's just my nature. So what is it? The thought of a new career or the thought of a better climate? Or just the back from vacation blues.

Anybody want catfish & Rotel grits? During our say in GA our neighbor held his annual fall catfish fry. He invites friends and neighbor and puts on this big spread of food. Diane & I are not much for chit -chat with folks we don't know, but the southern foods are a treat.

Went and visited Paula Deans restaurant while we were in Savannah. It's a real investment in time just to get in. The food is ok and overpriced. Diane got her picture taken with Paula's son Bobby and he autographed a cookbook for her.

While I was gone my co-workers kept their nose to the grind stone and got a lot done. I have the lead responsibility for the next three projects. So it's right back into the fire for me. However 63 days & I am gone again.

Hey!

Well it's sundown on my vacation time. This is what I would get to see most nights sitting on the porch or dock. We had a great time! A combination of work & play. Fixed the boat & the John Deere, Installed a new computer center. Trimmed and power washed and accomplished many other fun things. We went to Savannah what a neat town. The weather was great. Four days ago I was swimming but yet eight days ago we had a fire in the fire place. It is definitely fall down there. Leaves are falling the waters are starting to get cool, activity on the lake is slowed and the setting is beautiful.

The return to Georgia pile is already started and I look forward to the trip.

Y'all have a good day now.

I bid farewell

My bags are pack I am ready to go, and all that stands between me and the road South is a day of work. I hope to spend the night in Kentucky tonight. The extended weather forecast for Georgia looks great. Sunshine & low to mid eighties.

Still no computer link down South to the outside world so this will be the last post for awhile. Someday, probably right after we get electricity down there we will get a data line so we can communicate with all you northerners. I look forward to the day's when I can blog in February & give the temp.

Loose ends

Loose ends, A lot of little things need to be done before you get to go out of town. At work, things have gotten busy making time a precious commodity. I worked twelve hours yesterday and today has a lot in store. Diane takes care of a lot of details at home, mail, bills what food to pack, etc. That really helps. In addition to physically working on the job site today I have four or five other things that need attention to get things done at work in order to get out of town.

I am working tomorrow also, that will be the pits. I hate working the day I go away. My mind is not in my work and I can't wait for the day to get over and leave. The last few times I've travel the work load was light and got to sneak out early. This time that won't happen. It will be a long day and a long night. Hopefully a little pressure now leads to a lot of relaxation later.

Oh yeah it's Monday

Yesterday afternoon was spent loading the car with stuff going to Ga. It looks as if I am not going to have to use the car top carrier. That is if the coolers and a little bit of luggage goes into the allotted area.

How about those tigers? Pitching brought them here and pitching took them out. I bet they all feel terrible.

And then there is the other Tiger. Tiger Woods wins again. Amazing!
